Dickson’s Thoughts On Cup Game

Game day once again tomorrow and the First Team are on their travels again. We caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts…

Tomorrow should be a great game. Seagoe have strengthened heavily over the summer and will be a tough test as always. It’s always nice to do well in a cup such as the Bob Radcliffe as you are always in with a chance of drawing one of the “big boys” to test yourself. I think personally the cup has lost some of its sparkle over the years, since they cut the Championship teams out of it, which is a shame, but saying that, it’s like any other cup, you enter it to do as well as possible.

I’d much rather this fixture be a league game, as that’s our focus this year, but it’s a free one for both teams to see what each other are about, as no doubt it’ll be two tight league games over the course of the year. It’s always been an even contest between the two sides. Seagoe always like to get the ball forward quickly and I expect tomorrow to be no different. Thankfully being a cup game, we get to give a few of the younger players who came in last week another chance to impress. Last week the boys were a breath of fresh air and I have to say they really were outstanding with 10 men against higher opposition, so they have earned their place in the squad this week and long may it continue. They are keeping the experienced lads on their toes.

Kick off is at 2pm at Tarsan Lane, Portadown.
