Lurgan Town U15 Mid Ulster Team were again on their travels to play Ardstraw in the Quarter Final of the shield at Dungannon Integrated College on Friday night under the lights.
The first 7 mins of the game both teams cancelled each other out. Lurgan started to play their football and came close to the opening goal. This came from a corner from Carson and Ryan Lee Brown headed the ball towards goal but a great goal line clearance from the Ardstraw prevented the opening goal. It did not take long before the Town got their deserved goal.
Great build up play from Liam Campbell and Ben Hendron played in James Kelly who weaved his way past 2 Ardstraw defenders and delivered a pass to Ryan Lee who finished well for his 18 goal of the season. Both teams defences where holding strong and kept the chances to long range efforts.
Just before halftime Lurgan gave away a free kick 20 yards out and up stepped Ardstraw number 10 who levelled the score. Ardstraw came out strong in the second half but the back 4 of Lurgan held strong. Town nearly got their second when Ryan Lee Brown hit the crossbar with a good header.
On the 45 min Ardstraw got their second. Town never dealt with a corner and the Ardstraw forwards made no mistake from close range. Town went 3 at the back and nearly got the equaliser, through Carson who hit the crossbar from 15 yards out. Lurgan kept pushing for their second goal, Ryan Lee Brown came very close again but pulled his effort just wide of the post. Town had one last effort but unfortunately Aaron Buck put his effort just wide. Great all round team performance tonight. All the players worked really hard and put in a great shift.
Both teams played really good football. It was a very close game and the result could have gone either way. With a wee bit of luck Lurgan could have came away with the win. Both coaches were very pleased with the team efforts against a good Ardstraw side.
