U13s Derby Win In Cup

The NI Cup seen the Lurgan men host TTBS which proved to be an entertaining game of football. Lurgan started the stronger with the midfield of Gorman and Brady linking well with some neat passing and getting the ball wide to Thornbury and Hawthorne who looked dangerous with every attack.

The first goal of the game came with a brilliant through ball from Turkington to Hawthorne who got the better of the defender and finished well into the bottom corner. 1-0. Lurgan pushed on and created chance after chance in the early stages with the 2nd goal coming after Gorman played Brady through only for him to be brought down inside the area. Brady stepped up and calmly slotted away 2-0.

At this point it was all one way traffic and Lurgan could have been 3 up only for a fine save from the TTBS keeper from Hawthorne. TTBS grew into the game and showed they weren’t afraid to get stuck in, a clumsy challenge on Gorman resulted in him having to come off seemed and this seemed to disrupt Lurgan and TTBS got more joy on the ball. The TTBS midfield started causing problems for the Lurgan men but the back line of Pedlow, Mercer, Trainor and McAlinden were dealing with everything well and McCann in goals was having a solid game. TTBS finished the half strongly and pulled one back with a fine strike from range which left McCann with no chance.

Halftime: Lurgan Town 2-1 TTBS

The 2nd half started with Lurgan trying to take control of the game again and get back to the quick pass and move they showed in the first 15. Dobrowolski and Davison on the wings were having joy getting at the full backs but the TTBS defence were dealing with every cross well and limiting Dillon to scraps. Lurgan eagerly searched for a 3rd and after some good defending Hutchinson played the ball to Krol on the halfway line who turned his man and run past 2 more before seeing his effort hit the top side of the bar. Lurgan at this point lifted it a gear and Gorman back on the pitch was getting on the ball and making things happen the 3rd was inevitable.

After some good play in the attacking 3rd Turkington was brought down 25 yards out and up stepped Hawthorne to bury the free kick in the top corner 3-1. Lurgan seen the game out defending well with TTBS throwing everything at them. The Lurgan defence with McCann in goals deserve a mention for a solid display but MOTM has to go to Tom Hawthorne for a brilliant game and topping it off with 2 superb goals.
