Lurgan Town LL13s continued their winning ways this week with a comfortable 5-2 win over a physical Downpatrick side. Overall an excellent performance with great passages of play opening up their opponents to create numerous chances.
The first goal came after some great defensive play from Mercer who released the ball to the impressive Gorman. A great through ball by the latter sent Dillon through on goal who produced a composed finish, 1-0. Lurgan could have been further ahead after an excellent ball played by Davison had the Downpatrick defense turned but unfortunately Sloane couldn’t put his chance away after timing his run to perfection.
The Town midfield of Brady, Gorman and Turkington had their team on the front foot and after some neat build up play, Dobrowolski crossed for Dillon who controlled the ball and slotted it past the keeper for his second of the game and put Town further ahead, 2-0.
Town could have been 4 ahead if it hadn’t of been for the Downpatrick keeper who pulled off two excellent saves from Dobrowolski and Dillon. However, Town didn’t have to wait long for their third after Dobrowolski won his header, which Gorman gambled on and his pressure allowed Krol to tap in with his first touch of the game, 3-0 HT.
The second half started as the first ended with Town on top and after some great play down the left resulted in a freekick in a dangerous position. Hawthorne stepped up and took full advantage, he drove his freekick across goal and the Downpatrick defender was helpless to stop it going in, 4-0.
The excellent Hawthorne was again involved in the fifth goal after his dazzling run and cross was met by Krol at the front post who finished in fine fashion to make it 5-0.
The shine was almost taken off, on what was otherwise a superb perfromance after the team switched off twice to allow the Downpatrick side to pull two goals back late on. However, Town were able to see out the remainder of the game in comfort and secure the win.
A fantastic display from every player with every player putting in great individual displays. Mercer, Gorman, Brady and Dillon who started the game, where excellent from the first whistle. The players who came off the bench also had excellent games with Hawthorne, Krol and Dobrowolski in particular worth a mention. Overall a superb team performance from everyone involved, playing some great football from start to finish.
