Lurgan Town First team got their season off to a flying start with a 5-2 win over Lower Maze yesterday.
Despite having the better chances in the opening period, Town found themselves behind after 15 minutes. With the rain pelting down it looked like it would remain like this at the half, but on the 44th minute Henry Capper was brought down in the box and Ashley Gregg tucked away the resulting penalty.
Five minutes in to the second half and Town were 2-1 up thanks to another Ashley Gregg penalty. On the 68th minute David Hamilton extended the lead to 3-1 when he knocked it over the advancing keepers head and in to the open net.
On the 72nd minute Henry Capper extended the lead to 4-1, before Maze closed the deficit to two goals. Two minutes later though and Henry Capper got his second following some fine individual play down the left hand side.
Manager Lee Dickson said this about the game: “Good start to the 2019/20 season today for Lurgan Town against a Lower Maze team who I have no doubt will make life difficult for a lot of teams and should be there or there abouts come May. Heavy schedule coming up, we are looking forward to the next one”.
That ‘next one’ is away to Craigavon City on Tuesday 13th August with a 6.45pm kick off.
