The Translink Lurgan Town Cup for U11s took place on Friday night at the Arena. Initially it was an 8 team tournament but due to a withdrawal on the day there had to be a revamp to the format. All teams were put into one group of 7 with each team playing each other once.
Oxford Sunnyside comfortably topped the group therefore putting them straight into the Cup final. Crusaders and Lurgan Town Predators finished 2nd and 3rd respectively which meant they would meet in a play off game to see who would meet Sunnyside. Lurgan Town won a tight game on penalties.
The Cup Final was a local derby with Sunnyside and Lurgan Town playing against each other. Oxford Sunnyside took the lead but then conceded their first goal of the tournament. With the game finishing all square Sunnyside went on to win on penalties.
Dromara, Glenavon, Lurgan Town Vapors and Annagh United played in the plate semi finals. Both Dromara and Glenavon won their semi finals 1-0 to progress to the final. The plate final also went to penalties which Dromara won. Congrats to Oxford Sunnyside and Dromara plus well done to all other teams for making it a competitive tournament.
Thanks to Joe Monaghan from Translink in presenting the medals and trophies. Also, we had representatives from NI Children’s Hospice doing a bucket collection.
