Friday night Town under 15’s rounded up their season with a trip down the motorway to Dungannon to face a Mountjoy side that they had yet to get the better of this season and with a much depleted squad the boys were going to have to dig deep against a very good footballing side. Both teams looked threatening on the break early on but it was Lurgan who opened the scoring when Josh Johnston flicked a header from midfield into the path of Ronan Watkins, cutting in from the left Ronan drove towards goal lifting the ball high into net leaving the keeper stranded. Ronan doubled his tally and that of Town when James Maguire won a challenge in the middle of the park and with quick thinking put through Ronan on goal who confidently put the ball in the back of the net. A 2 goal cushion but it wasn’t all easy street with Mountjoy taking every opportunity to run at the Lurgan back line who had to be alert to keep the lead going into half time.
The second half wasn’t long started when from a corner Josh Johnston delivered a dangerous ball into the heart of the box and Adam Vennard met with his head thundering the ball off the underside of the bar and into the net. Josh Johnston was again involved in the forth goal for Town when running deep into the box quickly turned his player cutting the ball back to Jack Turner who cooly curled the ball over the top of the keeper and high into the net. Josh again was involved in the build up play to the fifth and final Town goal, when Kyle White released him up the line, Josh then slipped Jake Turner through who in turn cut the ball back across goal to Ronan Watkins to claim his hat-trick on the night and first of the season in the last game of the season.
Another season done and dusted, with many ups and downs along the way but the boys finished the season strong playing some fantastic football and showing a great team spirit. Third spot was claimed last week with circumstances going against that were beyond our control on a couple of occasions proving costly at the business end of the season. It is a season we can look back with plenty of positives and I don’t think anyone that has watched the football the boys have played this past 5 or 6 weeks can deny they have really come on leaps and bounds developing as a team and as individuals.
Team: James Hamilton, Tom Leatham, Adam Vennard (1), Kyle Thompson, Mark Christie, James Maguire, Ben Cullen, Ronan Watkins (3), Josh Johnston, Ethan Gorman, Jake Turner (1), Kyle White.
