Lurgan Town Under 14 Colts took on East Coast Strikers at Barbour playing fields Lisburn on Saturday 2nd March in the quarter final of the cup.
Both teams started well but cancelled each other out. East Coast took the lead when Town failed to clear their lines. Credit to the Colts whose heads never dropped and equalised soon after. This came from a corner from Rafferty; the ball fell to MacDonald on the edge of the box and he drove a unstoppable shot into the top corner.
At this stage Lurgan where on top. Good work by Campbell played a cross to the back post where Rafferty put it goal bound but good work from East Coast defender denied him a goal. Campbell had another great chance but again East Coast Striker defended well.
The Colts had the wind in the second half and again Campbell had another great chance to get Lurgan second goal but some how the Strikers got it cleared. All the pressure was coming from Lurgan. Was it going to be one of these days??? A great corner from MacDonald found Adam Banks who’s header was cleared of the line.
In the first 5 mins of extra time Lurgan went to sleep and East Coast got their second. Lurgan went 3 at the back but couldn’t get the deserved equaliser to take it to penalties. Again Colts played well some great football in really bad conditions. Missed chances denied them a place in the semi final of the cup.
