Colts Deserved More

Lurgan Town Under 14 Colts took on Newry City at Dromore on Saturday 23rd February in a U14 League game. The first 10 mins both teams cancelled each other out. The next 10 was a different story where O’Brien and Mullins started to boss the midfield. It didn’t take long till the Colts got a deserved opener.

Some great one touch football from Campbell and O’Brien who crossed a perfect delivery to Rafferty who made no mistake. Newry started to get into game and equalised when the Town failed to clear there lines. To be fair to the Colts they kept pushing for a second. Liam Campbell picked up the ball on the left wing and drove into the box and got his shot away where the Newry keeper pulled off a good save.

The chances kept on coming. Ryan Rafferty nearly doubled his tally with a great effect again. Good save by the Newry Keeper. Newry were quick out off the blocks at the start of the second half and started putting a a lot of pressure on Lurgan Town’s back four with consecutive corners. Newry nearly got their second when the right back was allowed room in the box and got his shot away but Ben Cartmill make a great save.

Town got their second wind and had 2 great chances to win it. Great work from Liam Campbell who beat his man and drove a great cross to Macdonald 6 yards out but sadly miss kicked. The Colts were recycling the ball and Rafferty played a great pass to Ritchie who failed to hit the Target.

Match ended 1-1. Today was a great display from everyone who put in a great shift. Some of the one touch football was great to see. Roll on next week.^
