Girls Win Convincingly

The U15 girls travelled to Armagh on Saturday to play Ambassadors and returned home with a convincing 6-0 win.

Lurgan had 3 players unavailable which one was goalkeeper JP. However, Chloe Stewart stepped in to do an excellent job and keep a clean sheet. The girls have been slow to start in games this season however they were on the attack from the first minute. Maeve was causing all sorts of problems for Ambassadors defence as she drifted out wide to link up with Molly McCaughey on numerous occasions. The first goal of the game was scored by Maeve after receiving a pass from strike partner Katie Gilmore. A second soon followed when Jessica Greenlee received the ball from Ellie McBride to score with a great finish. There were further chances for Lurgan to increase their lead but Molly, Katie, Ellie M, Maeve and Kelly Patterson all missed when well placed. Ambassadors threatened on a few occasions but Lurgan’s defence of Nicole Owens, Kayla Topley, Amy Barton and Ellie Beattie were excellent as they protected Chloe from having to much to do. On the couple of occasions that Chloe was called into action she was superb. H-T 2-0

The second half Lurgan turned it up another notch as they attacked on a regular basis to put Ambassadors on the back foot. The goal of the game was scored by the outstanding Jessica Greenlee when she received the ball in the centre circle which she dribbled passed 2 opponents then scored from 20 yards. In fact Jessica got a well deserved hat-trick with another good finish and Lurgans fourth. Kelly had a great chance to score but it was cleared on the line. Maeve McConaghy got her second and Lurgan’s fifth after a great shot from the 18 yard line. The final goal went to sub Amy Irwin when she was on hand to score from a few yards out. F-T 6-0

Overall it was a super performance from the all players however Ellie Beattie give a super performance at left back, Maeve McConaghy was a constant threat with her great dribbling as well as scoring twice, Jessica Greenlee produced a superb central midfield display as she played with power, pace and skill as well as scoring her first ever 11 aside hat-trick for the club. However, player of the match went to Nicole Owens at right back. Nicole is becoming Lurgans most reliable player with great reading of the game, pace and recovery of the ball if required.

On a sad point Ambassadors player was involved in a very unfortunate accident. She received a blow to the back of the head from the ball which she collapsed. The game was blew up a few minutes early and an ambulance contacted. We all from Lurgan Town U15 girls would like to wish her a speedy recovery.
