The U13s played a TTBS team on Thursday night. It was entertaining with a lot of skill on show. The game was played in a good manner by both teams and also encouraging to witness parents being positive from both sides. Parents get a lot of bad press but it was nice to be at a game with players not being put under pressure by negative parents shouting.
An older TTBS squad won 3 – 2 but Lurgan were very unlucky to lose the game. Amy Irwin scored the goal of the game as she waltzed past 3 players to finish past the keeper. TTBS scored an equaliser within a minute of Lurgans with another good finish. Caitlyn McCarter was in super form in Lurgans goal. Lurgan almost took the lead again when Grace Mackay was unfortunate with her shot plus Amy Irwin hit the crossbar.
The second half was similar to the first but it was TTBS that took the lead however Lurgan equalised a minute later when Amy Irwin played a ball towards goal which Emily Nelson touched for Olivia Campbell to score. TTBS player almost scored a wonder goal as her volley struck the crossbar. Lurgan were still creating through Evie Adams, Clara Adams, Amy Irwin, Grace Mackay and Hannah Watts. They were backed up by Defenders Tilly Douglas, Tamah Martin, Ellie Magill and Midfielder Ellie Beattie. TTBS scored the winning goal via a penalty with 5 minutes left of the game.
A very encouraging game from the young U13 squad. The improvement from the girls is great to see each week. Caitlyn McCarter deserves a special mention as she made some super saves plus played the full game despite having an issue with her ankle. Well done girls.
