Swifts Get Pre Season Underway

The clubs first ever senior thirds team kicked off their pre season against an experienced Craigavon City Reserve team in a friendly game at the Arena.

Lurgan’s team consisted of 1 nineteen, 6 seventeen, 2 sixteen, 2 fifteen year olds and possibly the youngest player Reece Herron to play senior football at the club at the age of 14.

The young squad lost 3-2 to a team that’s 3 divisions above them. Despite the defeat there were lots of positives. They may have rode their luck early on but they grew in confidence despite going 2 nil down. Jack O’Neill scored the first goal for the Swifts with a superb finish and Lewis McKinley not renowned for his heading ability scored with a well placed header from a great cross by Niall McBride.

Coach Phil McKinley expressed his delight at the performance of the young team. It shows that there is a lot a great young talented players at the club. All players can be proud of their performances but a special mention for Reece Herron, Cameron Purdy and Josh Milne for superb displays.
