U13 Girls Maintain League Push

Lurgan Town U13 Girls had a top of the table clash on Friday night against Killen Rangers at the Arena.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams trying to gain control. Maeve was giving great width down the right and getting crosses into the box but unfortunately Ellie and Katie missed opportunities. Killen attacked with pace but Lurgans defence of Kaitlyn, Chloe and Nicole were excellent and were well supported by Jessica in goals. Jessica’s communication plus distribution of the ball was good. The midfield of Alex and Ellie were working hard for the team with Alex controlling Lurgans play. Lurgan took the lead when Maeve swung in a corner which Chloe headed home. That was Chloes second headed goal from a corner in two games. The next goal was going to be important and it was scored by Lurgan. Maeve was assisting again as she played a pass through the Killen defence which Katie scored past the keeper with a super finish.

Killen made a blistering start to the second half when their number 8 scored a superb goal giving Jessica no chance in Lurgans goal. However, this didn’t worry Lurgan as they scored a third within seconds after Katie passed to Maeve which she hammered a high shot into the Killen goal. Lurgan were creating chances with Alex, Amy and Blathnaid all going close. Killen were a major threat in the last 10 minutes and had numerous chance to get back into the game but poor finishing and great goalkeeping kept the score at 3-1.

The win was massive for Lurgan as they regained the lead in the table but still have 4 games to play. Still a lot to play for and credit to Killen as they tried to get something out of the game but Lurgan stood strong and every single player give everything. Coaches Phil and Gary were so proud of the girls. A special mention for Kaitlyn as she gave her best performance to date. Well done girls. Definately HEART ON THE SLEEVE performance. 💛🖤❤
