The U15 girls were back in action on Friday night when they travelled to Mid Ulster Sports Cookstown to play Mid Ulster Ladies U15s.

Lurgan Town started brightly with Alex, Rebecca and Katie linking up well. Alex and Rebecca had a couple of shots on goal. The back line of Chloe, Amy, Blathnaid and Nicole were dealing with attacks from Mid Ulster and any attack that did get through was stopped by Leah. The first goal of the game went Lurgans way when Alex swung in a corner kick that fell for Kelly Patterson to score.

The second half Mid Ulster started brightly and deservedly equalised. However, this spurred the Lurgan girls on as they played some super football in the last 10 minutes of the game. Alex McILwaine was instrumental in the attacking play but was well supported by central midfielders Jessica Greenlee and Ellie McBride as they were winning tackles and playing passes into Alex. Katie and Alex had a great chance to put Lurgan back in front but it wasn’t to be at this stage. Then Alex did give Lurgan the lead after great play on the wing by Jessica. A third goal soon followed but this time Alex was the provider for Katie to break the offside trap to calmly score. A fourth almost came when Rebecca seen her shot saved as she went one on one with the keeper. There was a late charge from Mid Ulster but Kaitlyn and defenders stayed compact to see the game out.

There were lots of positives with Rebecca Blathnaid, Jessica and Katie showing up well but player of the game was Alex. It was great to see injured players JP and Maeve travel to Cookstown and support the team.
