Town Reserves welcomed Banbridge Rangers to the Arena in league action.
Town dominated the reverse fixture a month ago but Banbridge came to Lurgan with a few new players and determined to avoid a repeat result.
The first half was a scrappy affair for the first 20 minutes or so until Jack Evans tested the visiting keeper with a left foot strike that was pushed around the post. This kicked the game into life and both sides created chances. Evans had another chance go over the bar, Watkins had an effort saved by the keepers legs and several Lurgan corners caused problems. At the other end Kidd made a good save when left one on one with the striker and Bunting made a last ditch tackle to deny Banbridge an opener. Half time 0-0.
The message at half time was to match Banbridges workrate and the Town midfield upped their game to start winning the second ball. The game stayed fairly even until the stalemate was broken from an unlikely source. The ball fell to Trainor 25 yards out and he smashed a volley into the top corner for his first goal since May 2016!
From this point on Banbridge put the pressure on Lurgan Town, getting the ball forward early and Kidd kept Town in the game with a series of exceptional saves and command of his area from Banbridge set pieces.
Banbridge kept knocking on the door and with 5 minutes left in the game found an equaliser with the striker tapping in at the back post.
At this stage of the game it would be easy to settle for a point but both teams, to their credit, pushed for a winner. Town got the all important next goal and it came from a combination to two debutants down the left. Tim Millen sent Niall McBride in behind and as the defender came across to cover McBride robbed him and cut into the box. He lifted his head and cut the ball back to Callum Watkins who spun his marker to fire home with two minutes left.
Again Banbridge refused to accept defeat and Kidd again had to be alert to deny them an equaliser. But as the ball was cleared the returning Alex Woods found McBride who in turn slipped the ball through to Watkins who held off the defender and lifted the ball over the keeper to seal the win.
A good win for the team to get them lifted after their first league defeat of the season the previous week in Kilkeel, keeping them in contention chasing down the teams at the top of the table.
