Lurgans U17s played runaway league leaders and the only unbeaten team in the league on Saturday Lisburn Distillery.
Distillery started sharper and we’re moving the ball about well. They almost took the lead after a couple of minutes when poor defending give the Distillery striker an opportunity to score however Adam Craig made a super reflex save to tip it over. The trend continued as Lurgans defence in particular were sloppy with the ball as they continually give the ball away for the first 15 minutes of the game. Lurgan then hit their best and only spell of the game. Jack Evans scored for the second time against Distillery this season as he calmly hit home from the edge of the box after being assisted by Pedro De Araujo. Lurgans confidence grew and were unlucky not to take the lead with Andy NcIvor having a shot deflect of the crossbar for a corner then just heading over from the resulting corner from Lewis McKinley. The second goal for Lurgan arrived when another Lewis McKinley cross was tapped into the Distillery goal by Pedro De Araujo. H-T 2-1
The second half turned out to be Lurgans worst performance all season as they crumbled under pressure from Distillery as they showed exactly why the are unbeaten this season. Distillery equalised within 3 minutes of the restart and took the lead a few minutes later. Distillery ended up scoring a further 3 goals. Lurgan gifted Distillery so many soft goals due to a lack of pressure put on their players as they run through Lurgan with ease at times. F-T 2-6
This season Lurgan have played Distillery on 3 occasions and for 2 ½ games Lurgan have performed excellently against them but the second half on Saturday Lurgan looked lost. Lurgan have had to struggle through with only 12 available players for the last 6 games which to their credit they have performed well. However on Saturday Lurgans mean defence fell apart plus the midfield got overran. The only player that could take any credit from Saturday is Pedro De Araujo.
