Lurgan Town NL14s hosted Ballymena at the Arena on Saturday and ran out 5-2 winners. Ballymena started well and scored after ten minutes with the Lurgan defence caught sleeping. Town responded well and squandered several opportunities before Niall Dummigan was upended in the box and Daniel Pepper cooly finished the resulting penalty. The same player took a quick throw several minutes later releasing Rhys Emerson. He beat the defender to finish superbly from a tight angle. Town were well on top, some superb football being played. They again squandered several opportunities, hitting the post and bar before Niall Dummigan finished well after his effort came off the post. Score 3-1 at half time.
Shortly after the restart Ballymena scored, the defence stopping after the referee failed to spot the offside. Town rallied again and from a corner Michael McConville headed in. The chances continued to come, Craig McCorry and Jamie McKeown fired narrowly wide. Ballymena’s keeper continued to pull off some great saves. Town wrapped up the match when Nathan Bell’s shot was saved Luke Kerr fired home the rebound.
A good win for the boys with some good football on show.
