The Reserves wecomed Moneyslane Reserves to the Arena on Saturday, in an attempt to build on last weeks 3 points.
The Management team kept faith with the starting eleven from last weeks, last minute victory, but sent the lads out with the message that the performance had to be better.
Moneyslane started the brighter, and their energy from the first whistle was a shock to the Town players. Town had to dig in and battle for the first 25 minutes, with full backs Bunting and McIvor put under a lot of pressure which they dealt with superbly. From this solid defensive base, Town were able to get a foothold in the game and up until 40 minutes the game was a tight midfield battle without many clear cut chances for either side.
Just before half time Lurgan Town started to get on top and played some excellent passing football, against a string wind. They almost took the lead when Devlin got on the end of a passing move that spanned the length of the pitch, but the shot cannoned off the upright. 0-0 at half time.
Town tails were up in the second half and they opened the scoring when Devlin found the net after a great move involving Bunting and Irvine.
Moneyslane were still in the game however, and looked threatening on he break. They snatched an equaliser through a slick counter attack mid way through the half. Matthew Clarke in the Town goal then made an excellent save at the strikers feet and, in a brilliant performance, had total command of his area from the high ball to ease pressure on his back four.
Town grabbed the winner through top scorer Matt Irvine, his 150th goal for the club, when Jordan put him through one on one and he slotted home, a typical calm finish from last seasons Player of the Year.
The returning Stokes and Greenaway came on to shut up shop and help Town see the game out, good to see the lads back from injury.
This was an excellent performance from the team. The commitment, composure and will to win was clear to see, and it sets the standard of what is required in the coming weeks.
