A depleted Lurgan Town Under 15 team traveled to Rathfriland on Friday night and were unlucky in the end to end up on the wrong side of a 5-3 defeat
Lurgan who had Alex Archer back playing after a number of years started the brighter of the two teams and soon found themselves two nil up thanks to goals from Rileigh Jamison and Conor Lavery. An injury to James McCoy early in the first half meant Lurgan had no more subs to bring on and this in the end was their downfall because as Lurgan tiref Rathfriland got more into the game.
Rathfiland pulled a goal back and then Lurgan could have made it 3-1 only Pierce Lavery’s well struck shot hit the inside of the post and came back out. Lurgan were to rue that missed chance as Rathfriland scored another two before half time to make it 3-2 at the break.
The second half saw Rathfriland put Lurgan under pressure and it was soon 4-2 to the home side. Then came the best goal of the match as Rileigh Jamison scored an absolute cracker to take his tally for the season so far to 8. As the Lurgan lads began to run out of steam Rathfriland scored another to make the final score 5-3 to the home side.
The Lurgan Town coaches although disappointed with the result could not fault anyone with the effort they had put in and once again they would like to thank Andrew McCallion for being stand in keeper as he performed brilliantly.
