Lurgan Town Predators continued their excellent start to their Lisburn League campaign with a closely contested draw against Hillsborough Juniors on Saturday. Both teams played exceptionally well considering the difficult weather conditions, showing an excellent range of passing and commitment that was a joy to watch.
Both teams took every opportunity to shoot early on but neither were able to break through. A Matthew Hughes free kick produced an excellent shot by Callum Carson just past the post. At the other end Hillsborough were pressing with their number 8 producing a good save from Dylan Alexander in goal. Both teams continued to press with Lukas Moles shooting just wide after good work in mid field.
After half time Aaron Kerr went into goals ably assisted in defence by Josh Martin and Callum Carson. Lurgan kept applying pressure time and time again but just could not score. The deadlock was finally broken midway through the second half when a harsh free kick was converted by Hillsborough. Once again Lurgan raised their game and pressed for the equaliser, with William Bleaks and Darrach Woods busy on the wings.
Hillsborough always attempted to exploit the inevitable spaces which opened up in midfield and Aaron was kept busy in goal. Finally with only 5 minutes to go a well placed free kick taken by Christopher Heasley saw Jessie Turner head firmly into goal for a well deserved equaliser. A draw was a fair result and the football played by both teams was of a very high standard.
