Town made the trip to Anvil Park yesterday evening to take on Broomhedge. Town were missing first team regulars Jonny Hoey, Robin Caron and Steven White for a mixture of reasons. Despite this, Town started the game well, and took an early lead when David Clarke headed home from a Mark Baird delivery. Town then missed a few good chances to increase their lead, Clarke again with a header glancing wide, and Kyle Cousins from close range failed to double the lead. The game was turned on its head then when Town were reduced to 10 men after 25 minutes of the first half. This forced Town into a re-shuffle of shape, but to their credit held strong until the half.
The second half was a superb defensive display matched with quick counter attacking football. Broomhedge looked to go long on many occasions, but the backline of Barid, Clarke, Lindsay, McNally, Parks when introduced and young keeper Tyler Boyce dealt with everything thrown at them. And on the break Town should have killed the game when David Hamilton had his shot from close range blocked by the Broomhedge keeper with a magnificent save. As the game entered the final minutes youth players Mark Lucas and Darragh Gray showed experience and class beyond their years as they made long runs to run down the clock.
A good hard fought victory with 10 men for the majority of the game on a very heavy surface. The whole 14 man squad played their part in the victory, but special mention must go to the 3 under 16 players, Tyler Boyce, Darragh Gray and Mark Lucas who have recently came into the squad and showed their class.
Thanks to Broomhedge for their hospitality after the game and throughout the evening.
