Lurgan Town MU16s 2-1 Valley Rangers MU16s
Lurgan Town MU U16s got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Valley Rangers. Lurgan started the game sluggish and were continually second to the ball throughout the half. However, Lurgan almost took the lead when Lewis McKinley had a free kick tipped over the bar by the Valley keeper. Valley did take the lead when Jack O’Neill inexplicably handled the ball in the penalty area therefore Valley being awarded and then scoring the resulting penalty. Lurgan thought they had equalised when Aaron Winters scored but the referee had made an error by blowing for off-side which he apologised for right away. Although it wasn’t easy to take, credit to the referee for admitting his error. H-T 0-1
Lurgan received a half-time talk which they were told to play with more desire and composure. The team responded and 2 subs made an impact in the game as well. Lurgan began the half on the front foot and created a number of opportunities although they had to thank Adam Craig on a few occasions to prevent Valley adding to their tally. The equalising goal came from a Lewis McKinley pinpoint corner kick which Aaron Winters powerfully headed home. Then Lurgan took the lead with Aaron Winters receiving the ball 6 yards out which he turned to score past a crowded area. Lurgan wrapped it up with the goal of the game when James Willis played a through ball for Adam Hall which he reached before the opposition keeper and scored with a delightful chip into the goal. Lurgan almost got a fourth when Tim Millen had a 20 yard shot tipped over the bar. F-T 3-1
It wasn’t the best of performances from the team however they improved massively in the 2nd half to seal the win. There were a few good 2nd half performances however Jonny Russell was player of the game with a consistent performance.
